March was a month of fun/exciting/exhausting chaos. The World Cup Finals were hosted in our town and everyone has been buzzing about it for the last year. I’ve learned a lot about skiing in the last few weeks - some new lingo (like skijoring) as well as the ideal conditions for a ski race course (a solid sheet of ice to enhance speed - which sounds like my worst nightmare).
Quinn has been running around since January printing fliers, having meetings, and making plans to create an optimal experience for the athletes. He did a great job and we are so happy to flip the page on our calendar to April.
People came from all over the world to spectate (it’s not very often that we are seated in a restaurant and hear three different languages being spoken). My mom flew out to watch some of the races and hang out for a few days. I was glad that she came, especially because when the town gets crowded I tend to go into “full hermit” mode to avoid the crowds of people. I loved having a reason to pull a little itinerary together and get out of the house. We are always so grateful for visitors!
My mom and I watched the Men’s Giant Slalom on a beautiful spring day and it was amazing to see how strong and capable these athletes are - I’m always in awe of anyone who works that hard at their craft. On my mom’s last day in Idaho, Quinn took us on a long drive through the mountains to embrace the fresh air and lack of cell phone service. During our drive, we saw snow flurries as well crystal clear blue skies. March teases us like this - within the span of a day we can have freezing cold mornings and 60 degree afternoons. Winter isn’t quite ready to let go.
Another notable event from this month - we celebrated our three year wedding anniversary! It’s hard to believe how quickly the time passes, but I always take the day as an excuse to flip through our wedding photos, which I still love to look at. A client at work referred to us as “newlyweds.” When I asked her if we were still “newlyweds” if we’ve been married for three years already, she said, “Wait until you’re married for 30 years. Trust me. You’re newlyweds.” So maybe I’ll feel differently when we’ve been married longer!
This month, I finished the book The Wild Robot and absolutely loved it. We watched Temptation Island on Netflix - and while we’re not normally fans of reality TV - we found the show to be unexpectedly insightful and well done. We also watched the newest Godzilla movie. I had never seen any Godzilla movies before, and was surprised by how much I liked it. The effects were well done and there was plenty of suspense and action. Godzilla also reminded me (just a bit) of our puppy. For example, there’s a scene where Godzilla is raging through the streets and turns around, knocking over an entire skyscraper with its tail. A strange, misunderstood, mysterious, monster destroying everything in its path? Yep. That’s Franny.

Such a great getaway - loved watching the races, a beautiful snowy drive, as well as eating at our favorites places and discovering a new one (Stanley Supper Club) 💕
